With the football/cheer season ready to begin it is super important to make sure there is plenty of water available to our athletes. Here are a few tips that will help keep your child hydrated during those long practices and games.
Drink Water before practice or the game: Your child should drink about 4-8 ounces of water 1-2 hours before the practice or game starts, and again about 10-15 mins right before they start. This will help in reducing dehydration
Take frequent water breaks: Your child or athlete should stop and drink water whenever they feel they need it. Usually a water break every 15-20 mins is good to keep your athlete hydrated and less risk of over heating.
Bring a water bottle: It’s necessary that your child brings a water bottle to every game or practice. Doing this ensures that they always have access to water when needed.
Drink after the practice or game: Make sure your child is drinking water immediately after the game or practice. Now is also a good time for a snack or sports drink to re introduce some electrolytes into their system.
Drink filtered water: As you can see it’s very important that your child athlete has enough drinking water available to them to make sure they stay hydrated and healthy. Make sure tho, that the water they are consuming is clean, filtered water. You don’t want to fill their bottles with tap water as we know there are contaminants and chemicals in the water that can do more harm than good. We recommend installing a whole house filter on your home this way it is easy to fill your child’s water bottle right from your kitchen tap. This will give you better than bottled water quality coming thru every tap in your home, also ensuring the water they are showering in is clean and filtered as well. Not only that, but having a whole house filter will also save you a ton of money vs having to buy bottled water, and a ton of time vs filling from your fridge.
Cheers to clean water!
